I have some good news and some bad news

Bad News:
I have to move the car out of the church parking lot asap
Someone vandalized one of my headlights Evil or Very Mad
The only functional brake is the handbrake

Good News:
A couple of friends of mine and I tried push-starting the car... and managed to get it to run for about 10 seconds at a time.
A new headlight only costs 11.30$ on Ladaparts.ru

Here are some tantalizing alternatives to the broken headlight:

They'd sure get me some looks...

Sounds like you have a slow leak in your brake lines...

I had a similar problem with my 2104 coming out of winter storage last year.

How can I mend this? Please respond asap, I'm going to tow the vehicle tomorrow and I'd love to avoid doing so.

do you still have fluid in the reservoir???

if so,just try bleeding the system

if it hasn't been used for awhile, master cylinder may have packed it in.....

I'll check the fluid tomorrow and then I'll probably bleed the system with the help of a friend, a jack, and some supports.

If that's the case, what should be my plan of action?

Get a new master cylinder.

To tow it.. Strap an "IN TOW" sign on the back, put on your 4 ways and stay on the shoulder. use the handbrake to stop and just take your time. I know Quebec traffic.. It wouldn't matter if you were driving or pushing it.. If someone's gonna hit you LOL they just will Laughing

John told me something about putting fuel inside the carburettor, but through which intake?

Also, I've never been able to see the choke cable anywhere on the dashboard.

the carby models have a hand primer on the fuel pump (genuine do anyway),just pump the fuel up with that, easy as...........

prime fuel up,3-4 pumps on accelerator pedal, turn key, bobs your aunty....

yours may have an auto choke (you'll see water hoses going to a funny round?? thingy on the side)

In the end I towed the vehicle, and I'm pretty much convinced that I have an auto-choke.

I lifted the car at the church with a friend and removed the wheel. The reason why the brakes didn't work was because there are NO BRAKE CALIPERS up front.

The electrical system is pretty good except for the faulty turn signal and reverse light wiring, the absence of a horn, some burnt-out dash lights and the battery voltage indicator needle that flickers with the turn signal.
I took a look at the fuse box, and I saw, to my astonishment, an empty slot with the logo of a power window (really?).

Today, my father returned from France and although he was clearly very irritated by the Lada's presence, his reaction was far less than what I had expected, possibly because the car can't run.

I tried removing the headlight cluster, the one with the broken glass, but to no avail. I cracked one of the plastic "stems" through which one of the four retaining screws goes through, now, the nut turns with the screw, making it almost impossible to get out (both the nut and the headlight cluster).
How would you recommend I get all of the rusty nuts unscrewed? I've tried WD-40, but it hardly helps at all.

In future, I'll have to repair the rotating headlight mechanism, it doesn't seem to work at all.
