Hi everyone,
I *think* my 2101 needs a new fuel pump, but I'm not sure. I'm new to engine work. Here's what I know:
* The spark plugs are sparking
* The choke works
* There's no fuel making it into the carburetor
What else should I check before attempting to replace the fuel pump (yikes!)
thanks,

No fuel pretty much tells the story.
My suggestions, make sure there is gas in the tank (don't laugh, I've seen this first hand!) and to consider the possibility there could be crud in your tank.
I have never worked on a Lada like this, but I'm thinking the fuel pump shouldn't be that big of a deal. |

Pull the pipe from the fuel pump to the carb. Pres the fuel pump lever. If you get a good gush of fuel you don't need a fuel pump. _________________ GadgetBoy

great idea! if i do get a gush of fuel, what else would cause the fuel not to make it into the carb?
also, someone suggested pouring a little fuel into the carb to see if the engine would turn over. but he said it's tricky to do it right. any recommendations? |

Check the fuel inlet of the carb for blockage if clear you might have to dig inside the carb to check the float chamber. If improper fuel line was used the gasoline causes it to decay and small rubber particles to stuff up the whole works _________________ '09 Dodge Journey

Pretty sure my pump has gone south too. The car was running, but has sat for several months and doesn't get fuel at the carb. There wasn't any fuel in the filter ahead of the pump, but I poured some down the inlet, and as well as the outlet, but the priming lever still does nothing at all. Is the pump for the 1.6 the same across multiple years? There seem to be some on eBay, but not sure if the year is going to affect fit and performance. I have a 1995 1.6 Niva.
Anyone have any thoughts? |

All Lada mechanical fuel pumps are the same. You'll also be able to buy a repair kit or even bypass the mechanical fuel pump with an electric one designed for a carb. _________________ GadgetBoy

| Excellent, thanks. I have one on it's way...just that most of the ones I saw on eBay didn't have the priming lever, so I figured I would check. Managed to get a new one for less than what is probably the cost of a rebuilt kit and the hassle of going through it. |
